Augmented reality-based employee qualification is an innovation project funded by the Bavarian Research Foundation and led by Fraunhofer IGCV. As a technology partner, we are developing and testing a solution for advanced employee qualification using augmented reality together with users from AUDI AG and the ZF Group.
The training of new employees and processes is currently often carried out using the "show and tell" method, in which experienced colleagues pass on their knowledge directly in the plant. This "on-the-job" method is time-consuming, resource-intensive and often not flexible enough to meet the increasing demands of modern production environments.

To implement the project, an adaptive augmented reality qualification system is being developed that includes the use of VR and AR glasses as well as a specially developed AR qualification app. With the help of smart glasses, work content can be learned efficiently and solutions to problems can be applied directly on the store floor. AR technology makes it possible to learn or repeat a process step by step directly on the real system - regardless of the availability of other specialists. Virtual elements such as instructions, texts, photos, videos or 3D models are seamlessly linked to the environment and support the learning process. The cloud-based system secures specialist knowledge in the long term and makes it available at any time. The training content is created once by qualified specialists and can be optimized as required to ensure modern, efficient and flexible training and development.
